Erin Burnett’s grandma talks about her granddaughter’s light as a leader.

By the time her grandmother took the microphone to praise her granddaughter, it was an emotional moment. Erin, who is an outstanding student, excelled in all the AP sciences. She enters the classroom before other students, works hard to master the subject matter, and is the last to leave the room. Both an outstanding and hardworking student, she manages her TA role.  Her mother, who had Erin at the young of 16, is very proud of her. Her grandfather felt like a father to Erin, who helped him as he battles cancer.  Erin plans to attend UC Davis to study Human Biology with plans to be a surgeon

This all occurred at the last 2021-22 SOM breakfast hosted by teachers and volunteers. Several community groups gathered to excitedly applaud the students including Rotarians Don and Jen Weeks. Yareli Albino, Paulina Gonzales, and Cassy Ramirez also received their awards.

Yareli Albino, who volunteers on school committees, represents students on ASB and the Site Council. The Council has few students and mostly teachers but Yareli ensures the teachers hear her concerns. She also has a 4.0 GPA and works to support her family. Her old brother said he was proud of her growth, and her sister looks up to her. She will be the first girl to graduate high school in her family. Through a translator, her mother said her daughter is dedicated and beautiful and works hard for her achievements. She plans to attend CSUSM to study Sociology and wants to direct a non-profit.

As an AVID student, Paulina Gonzales excels in her classes and is a driving force in field hockey and la crosse. She always helps the coaches pack up and clean up the field. She provides quiet leadership and plays with determination. She always has a smile and thanks the coaches. Three of her sisters stood with her on the stage: One talked about being raised by a loving grandfather, the second one talked about Paulina’s determination, and the youngest sister talked about Paulina being her role model.  Paulina, who is known for her beautiful singing voice, plans to study music at Cal State Los Angeles. Paulina thanked her teachers and coaches.

Cassy Ramirez, who is also an AVID student, is a fierce competitor in field hockey and lacrosse. While her best friend Paulina is a quiet leader, Cassy becomes loud while running warm-ups and leading cheers on the bus. She motivates her team by hitting the ground running and crashing into the opposing team. She takes responsibility for her grades and performs well academically. Her big sister, standing by Cassy’s side, said she is proud of her and helps heal her sports’ bruises. Cassie’s next steps include finding a college lacrosse or field hockey team. Cassie thanked her teachers and coaches.

Our Rotary is pleased to sponsor of the Student of the Month program and looks forward to watching these young adults succeed.  Good Job Fallbrook High School students!
