The Reyes family celebrated their Student of the Month Felipe Reyes.

As the last event this year, teachers, a principal, volunteers, rotarians and a Lieutenant Colonel celebrated  student in a parade. Festivities ran from Alturas and travelled east near the 15 freeway. The deserving students received balloons, road signs, and congratulations praising their hard work.

Calculus Teacher Mrs. Berg announced that Felipe Reyes is one of the best and brightest. He performed as a gracious AVID student with the beginnings of a superstar. As a  strong calculus student, his group call him “the teacher,” because he has patience with those who struggle in math. Felipe checks in with students who turn off their camera due to their noisy surroundings. One student told Mrs. Berg that Felipe was so kind to check in on him and help him with calculus. That student now excels in math.

His family kindly brought out chips, plates, and drinks for the teachers and volunteers to celebrate their son. His Dad talked about his love for his son who works very hard at every school he has attended. “He is my pride and joy! “ exclaimed his mother. Felipe plans go in the nursing program at CSUSM. He thanked everyone for coming and thanked his parents for standing by him.

Her mom said her daughter is an amazing and great teenager. Alexis will be attending Mira Costa focusing on film and media.

Emeril Vergara is excellent student and community member. Amazingly, she kept her teacher going because she would be online with her camera video in the “On” position. She even brought flowers for the teacher and portrayed good behavior in these tough times. Emeril still plans for her future with a gap year to travel and help community other communities. She wants to fly to South America or  Thailand to help the less fortunate.

Jonathan Gates, nominated Lt Colonel Wade, assists everyone from deployed marine families to kids struggling with math. The Colonel enjoyed working with Jonathan and seeing him evolve into a confident young man. Crystal Gates, his mother and a SOM volunteer, told a moving story about Jonathan as part of the  base’s Devil's pups, a Marine Corps program. Crystal had an office on-base when she heard he was going to quit. She found him and convinced him to stay. As a result, he became a diligent young man and willing volunteer. Jonathan currently volunteers as academic team lead and literally enjoys his two math classes according to Calculus Teacher Mrs. Berg. He plans to attend Palomar and become a math teacher.

Rotarians Jen Weeks, Don Weeks, and Paula Shilts enjoyed their last Student of the Month parade for the 2020-2021 school year.

Dr. Narciso Iglesias, the proud Principal of Fallbrook High School, cheered on every hardworking student with his bull horn.
