Planted Planet’s Jared Soares introduced their Soil Scientist Ian Murray. Mr. Murray has been working in the industry for over 25 years and currently runs a facility for custom soils nationally. Few companies focus on the whole picture of plant digestion. He put together the microbial soil and fertilizer into one package with his artwork.

Fertilizer only works if you have the proper microbes. Plants don’t digest fertilizer. The bacteria and fungi digest the fertilizer, and plants eat the leavings. If you don’t have the proper biology in your own soil, it is like the you trying to digest a watermelon without a knife.

Our soils are balanced with the proper food source and microbiology. Their coco coir replaces peat moss. Peat moss is taken away from bogs, causing damage to the ecosystem. Coco Coir is the fuzzy fiber found in coconuts that is aerated.  One of the concerns with Coco Coir is the salt content. Most coir is created near the sea where it dries in the salty air. Planted Planet’s Coco Coir is cleaned with well water farther inland. They have included biology with microbial packs and unique fertilizers.

Mixing their crafted soil with your local dirt is helpful. To start, use their soil with ten percent native soil. Give your plants a chance to grow their roots into the native soil while still being fed by the Planted Planet mixture. Make the change gradually otherwise it will be like you driving a Ferrari one day and a Yugo one day later.
