Third Graders enjoy the our Rotary books supplemented by a YouTube video.

This project became a joint effort between the Archard and Weeks households. The Weeks negotiated with FUESD Library Technician Emily Larson and Director of Curriculum & Instruction Lea Curcio resulting in a YouTube book reading. This became the best solution during the pandemic when Rotarians weren’t allowed in the classroom. Steve Achard ordered the Rotary labels for the books and starred in the video to read to the students.

While this project usually happens in January, Don Weeks ordered the Scholastic books to arrive in early May after FUSED allowed students back in school. The huge truck arrived at the end of their driveway and couldn’t make it up their hill. Jen Weeks drove her Honda to the driveway’s end so she and Don put several book boxes in her trunk. In this way, they hauled them back up their steep driveway.

The books required labels. Don and Jen Weeks put Rotary labels on the Now and Ben books while Luna Weeks handled inspections. Don brought several boxes to the Achard home so Steve and Rita could stick labels on the inside covers of more books.

Steve met with Director Curcio to generate the YouTube video.

Prior to reading the book, Steve showed them the inside cover with Ben Franklin's inventions.

Everyone hopes that Rotarians can visit the classroom with a new crop of books next year.
