Jon Dickson talked about his wife and children and moving to America

To everyone’s amusement, Jon opened his presentation with a joke, “Why are anteaters so healthy?” We all shrugged. “They are full of little ant bodies.” Everyone cheered!

He then proceeded to tell us the story about how he met his wife. In 2012, he was traveling in New York on business when he planned to attend church. He was trying to find the church when a beautiful woman passed by. While he wished he was going her way, he asked directions from a New Yorker who told him to turn around and go a few more blocks. Jon happily went towards the church and found her in the queue to attend the service. They started talking right then! They became friends on Facebook, and he came back to New York to visit her.

He announced that those two little individuals in the photo were the result: Caden and Cambria. Everyone chuckled that they are both red-haired children just like the postman! Jon swears that if he grows out his beard, it will be red. Caden is lucky to be adorable because he woke Jon up at 2 a.m. this morning. He asked everyone to understand if he snoozes off!

For ten years, John lived in Cape Town before moving to America. It is the best known town and has blood, sweat and tears in the soil. Race relations have been a long journey but Nelson Mandela was released from prison in 1991 to become President in 1994. He was a truly phenomenal man and a leader who exemplified forgiveness. His parents live 5,000 miles North of Cape Town in a beautiful country village. Nearby, there is Hilton College, a prestigious boarding school, that he attended since he was 12 years old. It was founded over 50 years ago on a massive estate with a river running through it where he and the other boys threw stones at each other.

He wants to bring his parents and sister to America. He worked with South African rental properties and managed his income to pay off their mortgages. Moving to America resulted in a lack of resources. Everything he brought here was worth only half its value. He continues to work hard and build up his finances slowly and surely. His sister, who fought her cancer, had a brain operation at two years old where she became physically and mentally handicapped. He had a brother who passed away at 21. It has been tough on his parents. He hopes to bring all of them here so he can take care of his sister. This is all a big part of why he works so hard.To find out more about Jon Dickson, check out his information at Edward Jones.

In the end, Jon and Don share a grin!

After the presentation, Paula provided Don with Harrod's loose leaf tea and chocolate chip shortbread biscuits from her trip to England.
