Author Jenifer Coburn discussed Lebensborn Society maternity homes.

Imagine your life if you had to become pregnant by a Nazi Officer! Author Coburn talked about her historical fiction book telling a story about a maternity home called Heim Hochland —- part of the Nazi breeding program. Inspired by her Jewish family’s experience during World War II, she completed a great deal of research into life in Germany under Hilter’s regime.

The novel explores the lies of three women living in Heim Hochland who were “racially fit” to have babies. These babies would be taken from their mothers and raised by good Schutzstaffel (SS) families. Young Hilde looks forward to carrying a Nazi official’s child. Gundi, a student from Berlin, arrives already pregnant with a Jewish baby. While trying to start a new life, Irma works as a nurse at the home. These women each tell their story from their unique perspective.
