In this first slide, Outreach & Development Officer Theresa Geracitano discussed the Foundation for Senior Care’s Mission.

Senior Care started in 1979 as part of the hospital foundation.  Their role shifted to aging community support. Today, the Senior Care foundation focuses on Senior Day Care, Advocacy, Transportation, and Computer/Internet Classes.

Pointing out her Zoom background, Ms. Geracitano discussed their recent location on Mission Avenue and Fig Street.

Due to COVID-19, a lot had to be done in a short time. The amazing volunteers had it all up and running in two, short days. Due to a slowdown in adult day care, the manager ran the credit card machine and the daycare givers obtained and delivered groceries. The older adults, who received groceries, were able to develop relationships with the delivery personnel. As more volunteers came to help, they were able to reopen the daycare with social-distancing. Now, there is a buddy system of volunteers to keep in contact with the seniors who stay home avoiding COVID-19.

Our Rotarians enjoyed the presentation and had a meeting afterwards, Helen (center) joined Rotarian husband, George Archibald. The group enjoyed a chuckle because Rotarian Hadley Johnson's microphone made sounds like a squeaky alien. Rotarians Don and Jen Weeks (top/center) were recognized for their Zoom Rotary background.
